Paracosm

A paracosm is a detailed imaginary world. The creator of a paracosm has a complex and deeply felt relationship with this subjective universe, which may incorporate real-world or imaginary characters and conventions.

What if the world’s a paracosm
To which our mind shows favoritism
A side effect of hypnotism
We’re actually on stage right now

What if we live in paper towns
For all our laurels and our crowns
All our smiles and all our frowns
They aren’t real at all

Our joys, our disappointment
Our art, our entertainment
Our deteriorating environment
Our system of government
Our religious alignment
Our past, our present
Our scientific advancement
We’re not compounds and elements
We are merely figments
Of imagination

What if our world’s a paracosm
To which our mind shows favoritism
This may sound like nihilism
But that’s not what I mean

It’s an idea or a doubt
That I sometimes think about
No offence to the devout
But that doesn’t cut it for me

No amount of thinking through
Or anything anyone can do
Will tell you what’s false and what’s true

I guess
Things are important if they matter to you

We hope you have enjoyed reading Fundamatics, the award-winning ezine published by the IIT Bombay Alumni Association, envisioned as one that is by IIT Bombay alumni, faculty and students, and for the same vast community. And, the best part of Fundamatics is that it is completely free and can be accessed by thousands of our alumni who are spread all over the world. But this does not mean that we do not incur any operational costs in bringing the ezine to you. Your financial support can mean that we can continue to remain in circulation and “free” to you, our readers.

Coming across Paracosm in this issue was akin to being served a cup of the finest home-brewed coffee when you were only expecting the instant variety. A pleasant surprise. Thank you. Good to come across a fellow logophile and that too one so young.
